Fall is such an incredible time of the year, and I have no problem admitting I love to do a lot of basic fall things. This is my straight to the point, list of 10 things I love to do in the fall.

Baking

Fall is the perfect time to bake because the weather is finally chilly and it doesn’t feel like actual hell to turn your oven on. This year I’m planning on making cinnamon twists to serve with vanilla ice cream for a future fall recipe. They look freaking delicious and I’ll probably eat all of them myself. No judging.

I also feel like this time of the year is synonymous with yummy baked goods so I think of donuts, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cinnamon buns, monkey bread, and pies are also a must. I have been really into baking lately, but if it’s not your thing, you can check out bakeries in your neighborhood and see what treats they have!

Pumpkin Picking

What is fall if you don’t go somewhere to score some pumpkins? This is something I’ve done since I was a kid and I absolutely love it. If there was a quintessential item that says fall, it’s the pumpkin. AmIright? Whether you decide to carve them, paint them, display them, or cook them the experience of going and picking your own is just a fun and nostalgic way to spend a Saturday.

The great part about pumpkin patches is that they usually have other fun things to do there! Petting zoos, shops, and crafts can also often be found at pumpkin patches. I like to go with friends and then have a carving contest after.

Make a Fall Coffee

Pumpkin Spice is pretty much the reigning queen of fall coffee, but there’s totally other flavors you can try out! I love to come up with a fall coffee recipe that makes me feel extra warm inside during these chilly days. This one is simple, but it’s what I’m currently drinking.

Brew your normal cup of coffee. I’m currently using a caramel Kcup.

In a microwave safe jar (preferably one that comes with a lid), microwave a half cup of milk and a teaspoon of brown sugar together for a minute. Be carefu! The jar and the liquid will be hot! Put the lid on and shake the mixture until it’s foamy.

Add the mixture to your coffee and add some whip cream and cinnamon to the top. Voila!

Take a Hike

Fall here in Pennsylvania is absolutely stunning. All the mountains and trees turn the most stunning shades of reds, oranges, and golds. It’s the perfect time to hike because I truly feel like it’s when nature looks it’s most beautiful.

I have wrote about hiking in past blogs. It’s great exercise, but it’s an even better way to connect to yourself and your friends. Don’t check your phone, stay off social media, and just enjoy a gorgeous fall day.
I totally admit I still love walking and jumping in piles of leaves. No shame in my fall game.

Decorate My Home for Fall

September 1st is not officially fall, but it is the date I give myself permission to start decorating for fall. This time of the year goes by so fast for me, so I like to have plenty of time to enjoy my fall decor before I start decorating for the season. I love candles, dried florals, pumpkins, and cozy blankets.

I recently started making fall signs and home décor on my own. I think this time of the year is perfect to tap into your creative side and make your décor what you truly want it to be! If you’d like to get some ideas and check out pieces I made, they’re on my Facebook page here https://www.facebook.com/thisgirlathome

Have a Horror Movie Marathon

I am obsessed with horror movies!
They also scare the hell out of me, but that’s the point I guess. I love October where there are constantly scary movies on, and I can binge watch them on a Saturday. This could be the perfect time to grab your significant other, or a buddy, and be scared together.

This image is from the movie, The Strangers, which totally freaked me out. I think it’s loosely based on a true story, which makes it scarier! That being said, my go-to classic for horror movies is the Halloween films. They perfectly embody the terrifying Halloween mood I’m looking to be in. Don’t forget trick-or-treating! I love to take my niece or hand out candy at my home.

Football Sunday

It’s not fall without football for me, so most of my Sunday’s are spent watching games. I love getting together with friends or family, eating yummy food (hello wings) and cheering my team on. Normally I would try to go to a game whether it’s college football or pro football, but ya know, Covid. So this year it’s going to be all TV games for me.

Last year I started playing in a fantasy football league, and that has been a lot of fun! It’s not easy drafting players you don’t necessarily like, but getting crafty with your team makes it interesting. As a bonus, if my Eagles aren’t doing well, I can still hope my fantasy team comes through for me.

Apple Picking & Cider Drinking

If pumpkin isn’t the name of your game, maybe you’re an apple kinda person. I love them both, and I think picking apples and getting some cider puts me in the fall mood big time.

I have also recently discovered apple cider donuts. Wow. Where have these been all my life?! I’m totally fine with gaining 10lbs for something this delicious. I might take a crack at making some of my own, but it does seem a little tricky. Let me know if you’ve ever made them!

Have a Bonfire

There’s just something about sitting around a bonfire on a chilly fall night that makes me feel amazing. I grew up in a small town where this was super common, so I have a lot of great memories sitting around a fire.

I feel like when it comes to sitting around a fire, I have done it for all purposes. Camping, cooking food, making smores, telling scary stories, having some drinks, and just hanging out with friends are all just better around a cozy fire.

Be sure to check any fire rules or laws in your area before having a bonfire! Not everywhere allows open burning!

Go to a Fall Festival

There was no way attending a fall festival wasn’t going to make this list. Street vendors, food trucks, pretty lights, and chilly weather essentially make for a perfect fall day. I love to try out different foods that I wouldn’t normally find, and they have never disappointed me!

Attending a fall festival is often a great way to support small businesses, especially ones that may be local to your area. Some of these vendors make their living off festivals so it feels good keeping them going! Not only that, but a lot of items sold are often hand made, and that makes them pretty darn awesome.

So that rounds out my list. These aren’t earth shattering in terms of originality, but I love classic fall activities, and that’s exactly what these are. Tell me your favorite from this list!
