Having a self-care Sunday routine has really made me appreciate the day so much more. A lot of people don’t love Sunday’s because they feel anxious or upset about the fact that the weekend is coming to an end.

There was a time when I utterly dreaded Sunday evening. I would anticipate the dread of Monday, and it basically ruined the end of my weekend. If you’re anything like me, you want to get every last minute out of the weekend, so this was unacceptable.

Keep reading to see what I do to give myself, and my Sunday, a little love.

Start The Morning Routine Off Right

I like to start my Sunday morning slowly by having a cup of coffee on the couch. Sometimes I sit in silence and just kind of appreciate the moment, but other times I put on HGTV or the food network. Sometimes I’ll check my Instagram and respond to comments because I love to hear from you!

I personally don’t like the feeling of waking up and having to immediately deal with obligations, so this time in the morning lets me stop that.

Once I’ve got some coffee in me I can function more like a real human. I usually do a quick clean of my apartment. I’ve found I’m able to get a better start into my week when there isn’t a mess waiting for me when I get home, so cleaning up a bit Sunday morning eases some of that stress.

I often clean Saturday morning, so sometimes this isn’t necessary. If you’d like to read about my quick weekly cleaning routine, you can do so here https://thisgirlathome.com/my-weekly-cleaning-routine/

After my apartment is clean, I don’t like to make a mess of it again. I tend to stick to simple meals, or I’ll order takeout, so that I don’t have to clean a bunch of dishes from cooking.

Takeout is coincidentally one of my favorite forms of self-care so I consider it a bonus. I’m a girl that loves wings and fries, what can I say?

Healthy Body, Healthy Mind Self-Care

I typically try to get some type of exercise in on a Sunday to help clear my head, even if it’s just a short walk. Now that the weather is getting nicer, going for a run or a long hike is preferred. There’s some beautiful trails that have amazing views near me, so I tend to enjoy being outside longer on those days.

This is also the time of year I try to slim down a bit. A hike helps me get some exercise, in a way that I really enjoy!

Night Routine Self-Care

Once I’m in for the night, I really step my self-care game up.

If you haven’t been able to tell from my other posts and photos, I’m obsessed with taking baths. I have always been a bath over a shower type of girl, and I have to say it’s my number 1 favorite form of self-care.

A bath tray is perfect for holding your bath time essentials.

Bubble bath, bath salts, bath bombs, sugar scrubs, you name it, I love it. I started making bath bombs myself a few years ago and I really enjoy the process. It’s fun to be able to customize them, plus they smell delicious and turn the water beautiful colors! Lush is probably the reinging VIP of bath bombs, and rightfully so. Take a look at these beauties.

Post bath, I slather on some lotion and get comfy in my robe. I was never a robe person until I got one last Christmas and now I can’t imagine a time without it. I’ll link my robe down below. It has a beautiful scallop pattern and it’s so soft. It’s definitely an item that I will purchase again when it comes time to get a new one.

I like to paint my nails on a Sunday. There’s something about freshly painted nails that makes me feel prepared for the week. Before I start, I normally put on a movie, dim the lights, and light some candles.

I love the cozy atmosphere this creates because it helps me start to wind down. I bought this strengthening nail polish remover at Target, and I have to say, it’s pretty darn good. It takes my polish off quickly, and it does not dry out my nails like my old remover did. Removing my polish is the most annoying part to me, but since I started using this, it has become much easier!

A glass of wine and some candles are the perfect addition for a relaxing Sunday.
My love of neutral colors extends to my nail polish, too!

As I slow down my night, I like to read in bed a little bit before I turn out all the lights. I try to stay off social media or anything that will overly engage me before bed so that I’m able to fall asleep. Sometimes before bed I will think about things that I’m grateful for because it really does make me feel good.

After some reading, it’s lights out for me. I really make an effort to get to bed early on a Sunday to give myself a shot at 7 or 8 hours of sleep. It doesn’t work every time, but if I get to bed late, it’s harder for me to fall asleep because I get stressed about my lack of sleep. Annoying, right?

So that is my self-care Sunday routine. It’s pretty simple, but it makes me feel good. I’m thinking about doing a list of self-care items I use, so if that’s something you’re interested in seeing, comment down below and let me know!
